The Carrot tree
Carrot trees growing on Hyrax Hill, Nakuru
The Carrot Tree grows in many parts of Sub-Saharan Africa. Its a Savanna tree that grows between 500 and 1950 metres above sea level.
The leaves, bark and roots of the Carrot tree all have medicinal properties. Because of this, it is often left standing when other trees are clear.
The Carrot tree is actually in the same family as carrots, and of the Octopus tree we found in Eburu forest. Like other members of the Apiaceae family its flowers grow on stalks the shape of umbrella spokes.
